Alone Time is Hard To Find

There are just not enough hours in a day. I don't know exactly what to do about it. I wish I didn't need to sleep. That would give me about seven more hours to myself, which is really what I crave. Dee and Riley left late this afternoon for Pittsburgh for the usual routine of spending the weekend with Dee's parents. Even though I crave alone time, I am going to miss Dee and Riley so much when they move. Dee is very enjoyable to have living with us, and I can't quit holding and staring at Riley. My real little baby doll. I went with them for her 1 month check up today (actually 5 weeks) and she already weighs 10lbs., 13oz., up from her birth weight of 7lbs., 15oz. Chubby little thing, which is exactly how she should be.
I am trying to get more of my sewing and knitting done. I really enjoy these hobbies. I think menopause did something to the creative part of my brain and kicked it up a notch. At least one good thing that came from all these hormonal changes. I sometimes feel like I'm a different person since the onset of "M" and mostly for the better. There are a few things that are not better, but we won't get into that right now. Anyway, I'm currently working on several different projects. See my other site at http://mycharmingcreations.blogspot.com/ for a look tomorrow. I'm too tired tonight to post it now. Here's where there is a time crunch. This new creative outlet of blogging is done in the evening and so is my sewing and knitting. I'm staying up until midnight or 1am to get as much done as I can, but it's not enough time. So let me take this time right now to apologize to all of you that may be reading this right now. I read all of your posts every night, but then I just run out of time to comment as I would like and then get my own posts written. In the evenings I've also been doing some research into setting up an Etsy site to sell some of my things. I would really like to do this. I think it could be so much fun and besides that, I have a lot of my "stuff" just laying around and in cupboards. I always thought about having my own little gift shop, and an internet shop would maybe be even better. I'm still debating the issue, though. I need to make sure I will have the time to put into it.
My days are taken up with working in my yard and garden, cleaning and taking care of my house, making lunch and dinner, taking care of the 2 dogs, and working for my husband a couple of days. Then there are the Wednesdays that I get groceries and run errands. A change I would like to make is to take a couple of hours during the day to work on my crafts. Evenings only just isn't enought time.
Then there's My Bob. He says I don't pay enough attention to him. Oh Please! We've been married 30 years and his office is in the house. I love him very much, but I'm very content alone a lot more than he is. Sometimes I just want to say, "Give me a break and leave me alone", or "I want a whole day to myself , I'm not working for you, or ironing your shirts, or fixing any meals" . But I would never do this. It wouldn't go over well. He's a great husband and it wouldn't be worth the bad feelings it would create.
Oh well, I am really not complaining about my life at all and sometimes when I read over what I've written I'm afraid it may come across as such. I don't mean to. In fact, quite the opposite is true. I have a great life and am very fortunate in many ways. I just need more time. I enjoy so many things in life and just can't get them all done. So this is one of my short term goals right now, to manage and re-arrange my time and projects to fit it all in. I'll figure it out and make it all work.

Nina, you certainly have the multitasking down. Your life is so full it's spilling over! Although it sounds incredibly crazy, I'm glad you feel free to write about it to us, because comparing life styles is very illuminating and can offer alternatives.

My own life is very sedate, compared to yours. The good thing is you won't ever have to worry about being bored!

Namaste, DJan

Hi, Nina it great to hear you might be setting up shop on etsy.
I understand how you feel as i find myself sometimes wishing i had more energy/time/motivation to get everything done.Back here in India it is very dusty and there is no end to cleaning the home. The trend here is to hire a help if you can and i've had 8 in 3 years....had to send them packing as they kept breaking things around the home-till i get a trained help i'm on the job.
I love reading your blogs.HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.

I say tap into that creativity! I am obsessive about things being clean and orderly so I never get around to the creative part. You do it for us!

We're in the same boat, aren't we? The older we get, the faster time goes... I too have cut back on my commenting time. I will have to cut back more if I'm ever going to get my book written! And my horse trained. And my landscaping done. And my...

Maybe we're just doing more than a lot of people!

Don't feel guilty for wanting a little time for yourself. You are a terrific individual and give so much to all those important people around you.

You will have more to offer everyone around you, if take a short break and refresh your self first.

Thank you all for your encouraging comments. I finally did take this whole day for myself and I do feel much better. I am also trying to work out a new time schedule and I think trying to fit in the writing an hour or so during the day instead of evenings will leave my evenings free for my other creativity. All of the input is very helpful.

Hi Nina! Commenting here because you are more likely to read it here :-) Just FYI, Spokane is about as far away from Bellingham as you can get. We are on the western side of the Cascades, on the water, and Spokane is on the eastern side, where it gets really hot and desert-y. I didn't even realize that Washington state had that climate until we came up here three years ago and explored the whole area. I don't do well in heat, which is why I left Colorado.

So glad to hear you took some time for yourself today. As Lily pointed out, we are needing to cut back something! I'm glad to have made your acquaintance, and I'll follow as long as you post.

Oh my goodness! I just noticed you are from Dubois! Our relatives live in Brookville and Clarion. We are going to be out your way in a few weeks for a family reunion. Whenever we would go to Brookville when we were little for vacation we would go into Dubois for big fun at the Wallmart : ) And we would eat at Perkins I think. Or Denny's maybe : ) Such great memories. I am sorry your sweet grands are going to be moving away. That will be sad. I can't imagine!

Hello Ms Nina,

First of all, I'd like to say thank you for visiting and taking time to read my blog.

Yeah you right, we have to be alone sometimes. We have to allot some quiet times for ourselves, or to release ourselves from all the stressful things that comes our way. Like Charmine we do hire some househelp to help us with our daily chores or do the things that we can't do at all in case we are too busy to get it done.

Time management does an important role when we are multitasking and it helps a lot.

I hope we be good friends here in our little comfort zone.
Take care.

Nina, I understand fully what you are saying. A few years ago, a fellow work-at-home-for-and-with-your-husband friend said to me "Helen, I know you are about to embark on working at home and with your husband, but when you do - you will certainly deserve a medal".

Ha! No medals forthcoming, but you know - each day as it comes...

When you figure out how to get it all done, please share with me! There never are enough hours in the day and I hear you on the alone time. I am an only child and quite comfortable being alone. I would like to encourage you to give an etsy shop a try. It is quite easy and we've had nothing but positive experiences with ours. Have a good weekend! Twyla

I hear ya, sister! I love my alone time. And when mine is working overnight, I'm happy as a clam. I know that sounds terrible. But if you can't be over 50 years old and say you enjoy solitude, there's something wrong with womanhood.
Brenda
