We Remember

As we honor Memorial Day, this whole weekend seems to
signify several things. First and foremost, we remember those that
have given their lives for our country and we will never forget them.
We honor them forever for our freedom and liberty. We also remember
family and friends that have gone before us. People that have individually been a part of us and made us who we are.
Every year, my mother and I go to the cemetary where my grandparents and aunt are buried. This would be my mother's parents and sister. We plant flowers at their gravesite, then we go to lunch. It's a pretty drive out in the country and it is such a bonding experience with my much loved and missed family that have passed and also with my mother. Just seeing their names on the head stones immediately brings back wonderful memories. And the annual experience of doing this with my mother will holds it's own special memories in the future.
Another part of our weekend was the family cook out at my house yesterday. It was a beautiful day, even though we had a quick rain shower in the middle of it. Bob and I enjoyed my parents, daughters-in-law, grandsons, and brother of DIL Melissa. My sons', Austin and Brandon, are in the military and stationed in San Antonio and Spokane respectively right now, and were unable to be home with us. I thought of them all day as we all missed them, but remember why they are not here and how proud we are of them.
The meaning and memories I have for this Memorial Day are good ones. I would wish this to be so for everyone.

Nina, I loved this post ! This is exactly what our family did, and now my daughters are here to do it with me. I have always said that every corner has a memory as we drive by. It's been a long time now, but I can't imagine not doing this as it's a tradition.
It must be hard to have two sons away in the service -- I hope you had a good holiday and I'm sure you had many stories about them. I hope they come home soon.
btw, I love your pink blog. I would have chosen this one, only I have so much red on mine that "Ouch". Too busy.
Thank you for stopping by.

What a beautiful post, Nina. You should be very proud of your sons. May God watch over them and keep them safe.

I just posted a blog that was so different. Reading these I think my childhood has influenced greatly my feeling on this ritual. I envy those who feel different. I guess that part of me just didn't get nurtured.

Hi Nina,
Thank you for visiting and your kind words.
I really appreciate it.
You're always welcome!

Your blog is looking very beautiful with this new design. Pretty colors.

Wall Wednesday is hosted each week by Barb at "Grits and Glamour".
So many fun weekly memes to get involved in. To be honest I'm not sure I would of ever had a single visitor to mine if it wasn't for weekly memes.
They are a great way to meet others.

I have a list with links attached to many of them on the very bottom left side of my blog. Stop by and click on the picture and join in the fun!

Have a blessed Memorial Day! ~Melissa :)

Thanks to all for the comments on my new blog design. It's fun figuring out how to do some of this stuff. I spend too much time on it, though.
Yes, I am proud of my boys and miss them. Austin, #1 son, called today. So great to talk to him. Brandon, #2 son, will be home on Friday for 15 days for birth of his new baby. Can't wait. I'll be posting on this. Stay tuned.
Melissa, Thanks for the tips on the weekly memes.

Nina, We have a lot in common - I am Nina too! Well, sort of....here's what happened. Grandie #1 calls me Nana, then twin grandies for some strange reason switched to Nina, then Grandie #4 joined in with Nina. Meanwhile, Twins #2 & 3 are in the process of switching back to Nana, but #4 is staying with Nina...... Whaaaaaaat? I don't know who I am!!Anyway, love your post on Memorial Day - awesome. Oh, on your previous post, your son does have a resemblance to Kris! (I think Adam had the best voice, but Kris is just such a quality person - I know, it's a singing competition!) I'm glad "So you think you can dance has started?" Thanks for following. I've added my name to your followers, as well. Linda

Hi Grandma Nina! My name is Rebeckah and I came over to say hi! I saw that you gave Grandma J an award. Isn't she the best blogger? I just love her so much! I knew you would have a great blog too though because I love all people that are Grandmothers : ). I just think you are a magical bunch!

Thank you for honoring our soldiers. I am so grateful for all they do for our country!
